Job Summary

This position reports to the Athletic Director. Develop, coordinate and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for College intercollegiate sports. The head athletic trainer will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (required) in appropriate area of specialization. • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
• State of Texas Athletic Training Licensure or eligible for exam.

Must be available to work a varied schedule to include extensive night and weekend work.
Must have a high degree of communication skills.
Ability to create, evaluate, and document procedures.
Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments.
Ability to solve problems and be multi-tasked.
Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff in a professional manner.
Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Ability to promote a positive campus image.
Ability to follow established college policies and procedures.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort, but typically also involving some combination of sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-25 pounds). Task may involve extended periods of standing or walking.
Frequent travel required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred, 2 – 3 years professional experience preferred.

SALARY $35,000; Plus Benefits

Essential Job Functions

Developing overall sports medicine program for the College, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes.

Providing athletic training services for the College’s athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.

Coordinating and scheduling physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.

Working in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.

Assisting Athletic Director in the development of the sports medical program budget.
